Santa Maria wildlife control tip of the month: What are the most common types of animals that live in attics?
It is possible for pretty much any small wild Santa Maria exterminator animal to end up in your attic, and actually it is fairly common for those who live in rural or wooded areas where these animals are plentiful. The most common type of animal found in the attic are small rodents (mice and rats). These tiny animals are able to squeeze into any available space, and they prefer the dark tight spaces in the attic best as a cozy nesting place to settle down and birth their young. Furthermore many rats and mice tend to gravitate toward houses because of the very large potential for food supply. We as humans have mass amounts of food and tend to leave that food out where rodents and other small animals can gather their own supply. Attics also have a good wood supply which Santa Maria animal control rats need to chew on in order to keep their teeth “filed.”
Squirrels are also commonly found in attics, particularly Santa Maria animal trapping tree squirrels due to the easy nature of hopping from trees right to the cozy nesting place. Attics are a good place to store food, as these creatures tend to do, for hibernation. Squirrels also have babies twice a year, so your attic might be a particularly good space for these curious little creatures to settle down. There is plenty of material such as insulation and oftentimes cardboard or other debris that squirrels can use to construct their nests without wandering too far from home. Attics also provide protection from predators that the outdoors does not, making it an even safer place for their babies.
Raccoons and possums are fairly common in Santa Maria wildlife removal attics as well. Raccoons also like to chew on things so they tend to make holes and just wander on in. Attics make good nesting grounds for raccoons as well as they are usually warm and dry, a perfect atmosphere for these creatures. Possums and raccoons are also nocturnal, so the darkness in the attic provides the perfect ambiance for these creatures to hide from predators who are also nocturnal.
Birds are often found in Santa Maria pest control attics as well, namely pigeons. Many people don't think of birds when they think of wild animals in their attic, but more often than not, the noises coming from the attic can also be coos and bird calls from the nesting pigeons. These birds like high places where they can easily come and go as they please, so the attic is a great place for them to camp out. They can easily fly in through a vent or a crack in the eaves or even possibly an attic window if you have one, which also makes them fairly easy to shoo back out. Many birds in general prefer buildings as a site to lay their eggs safely away from animals looking to eat those eggs before they even hatch.
